When you’re packing for a trip to Dubai, it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that you have to “dress to impress” or wear a very glamorous outfit – but the truth is why not just be yourself?
The general rule regarding dressing in public is to wear clothing that covers the shoulders and knees for women and it’s a good idea to carry a light sweater or a pashmina with you but my best advice is to dress semi formally and comfortable with great accessories.
In my perspective, Dubai is a modern city that’s open to all kinds of people from all over the world. You’ll find plenty of traditional clothing and styles there, but you’ll also see a lot of people wearing shorts, jeans, short sleeve tops, sandals and sneakers.
There is no dress code for visiting popular places like the Burj Khalifa observation deck, although it’s advisable to dress modestly in Dubai. If you want to dine inside the world’s tallest restaurant – At.Mosphere, formal dress and smart shoes are required.
So here’s my advice: pack light and pack smart! I recommend packing versatile pieces that can be worn together or separately (tops, mid skirts, dresses, swimsuits) — and make sure to bring comfortable footwear (sneakers, flat sandals) and leave the high heels for the night out!
If you plan on going shopping at Dubai Mall or Marina Mall, it’s best not to wear heels or sandals. I suggest a white basic sneaker which can be used with skirts, dresses and any outfit. You’ll be walking around all day and likely won’t have time to change it. I suggest that you bring a sandal in your bag in case you need to go to a fancy restaurant.
What to wear:
-Dress modestly or semi formal! If this is unfamiliar territory for you, go with long skirts, short tops, midi dresses with long sleeves or invest in great accessories to make your outfit look posh!
-Bring a scarf or pashmina with you—you’ll need it at night or in air-conditioned buildings.
-Wear comfortable shoes! You’re going to be doing a lot of walking and sightseeing, so make sure they’re up for the challenge.
What to pack:
It really depends how long you will stay but my suggestions are:
– 3 bikinis
– 3 long skirts
– 3 dresses (mini and midi)
– Swimsuits (3 bikinis and 1 piece swimsuit – my suggestion is black that you can use with skirts)
– 4 tops
– 1 white shirt
– 1 cover up beach dress
– 1 cross body bag
– 1 beach bag
– 1 hat
-1 white sneaker
-1 flat sandal comfortable for walk long distances
– 1 gold high heels – to match with your outfits for night out
– Accessories like earrings, necklaces and watches.
– Make sure you’ve got plenty of water on hand—it’s good for hydration and it’s good for the environment! If you don’t want to buy bottles at every corner store, consider packing some reusable ones (you can get them here).
