Dubai itinerary: Things to do in your first day!

After 15 hours of a flight from Sydney to Dubai, we finally arrived at the Dubai’s Airport. We had a stressful landing as the airport is one of the busiest in the world and when we’re getting close and preparing for landing, it was very foggy in Dubai (very usual) and our pilot couldn’t have the safe visibility required for landing at that time (around 6am), so our airplane had to go-around (take off again) not only 1 time but 2. It was very scary because when we felt the plane going up again there was no information but the pilot was amazing, explained the situation and we could have a safe touch down after all. It was the first time this happened to me.

Dubai Airport

Dubai’s airport is huge, stunning and very organized. We travelled when COVID restrictions were in place and the immigration process was very quick. We received a free SIM card with 1GB to use during our first day in Dubai! Great service!

Taxi in Dubai

We haven’t booked any shuttle bus prior and we just found it very easy to grab a taxi from the Airport to the Hotel. There’re plenty of taxis and it’s safe to use them in Dubai. We used taxis everyday on our trip and we found it very cheap as well. So I highly recommend taxis as your main transport during your trip.

On our way from the Airport to the hotel, located in Downtown Dubai, we could see some famous attractions as well as Dubai Frame, Museum of the Future, Burj Khalifa and other amazing famous buildings.

Where to Stay

We stayed 4 nights at JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai , 5-star hotel, one of the tallest in the world, located in the Business Bay, Downtown Dubai. It’s an amazing hotel with more than 10 restaurants, SPA and wellness center, outdoor pool with Burj Khalifa views and more. We liked the location and it was easy to go everywhere in Dubai by taxi. The hotel offers a shuttle bus everyday to Dubai Mall.

Time to Explore

Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa, known as the Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration in 2010, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft, or just over half a mile) and a roof height (excluding antenna) of 828 m (2,717 ft), the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure and building in the world since its topping out in 2009, supplanting Taipei 101, the previous holder of that status.

The building was opened in 2010 as part of a new development called Downtown Dubai. It was designed to be the centerpiece of large-scale, mixed-use development. The decision to construct the building was based on the government’s decision to diversify from an oil-based economy, and for Dubai to gain international recognition. The building is named in honor of the ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

It’s really impressive to see the Burj Khalifa and how tall this amazing architecture and building is. According to Tripadvisor travellers, these are the best ways to experience Burj Khalifa:

At.mosphere Restaurant

We choose to visit the At.mosphere restaurant and book a table for two in advance. It’s located at the 122 floor of the iconic Burj Khalifa and there’s a minimum spend of $300 per person. You can experience fine dining at the highest restaurant in the world and also enjoy the views from the top of Burj Khalifa.

The Dubai Mall has more than 1,200 retail outlets, including two anchor department stores, Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale’s, along with over 200 international dining experiences and a wide range of entertainment and leisure attractions for families to enjoy.

Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo

The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo holds a Guinness World Record for the world’s ‘Largest Acrylic Panel.’ The Dubai Aquarium tank houses over 33,000 aquatic animals, consisting of over 150 species. The largest collection of Sand Tiger Sharks in the world lives in the tank, which is definitely a treat to the eyes. Underwater Zoo gives a chance to the visitors to witness various species of animals like penguins, crabs, piranhas, water rats, jellyfish, sea horses, and many more.

Dubai Fountain

The Dubai Fountain is a system of dancing fountains built on the waters of Burj Khalifa Lake, in the heart of Downtown Dubai.

My suggestion is to book one of the many restaurants in front of the show and enjoy a beautiful dinner with views. We’ve booked a Thai restaurant called Thiptara, located at Dubai Palace Downtown Hotel. It was one of the best experiences in my life!

There’s still so much to do and see in Dubai in one day or more. We spent 7 days in Dubai and we still found that we needed more time to enjoy all the attractions. I hope you enjoy this one day itinerary in Dubai as much as we did!
